NIT – Mizoram, Aizawl is an Institute of National Importance conducting UG programmes in Engineering and Technology. It is one of the 10 (Ten) newly established NITs in the country. Applications for the under mentioned Faculty positions in the prescribed format are invited from Indian Nationals possessing consistently good academic record, with commitment to quality teaching and potential for conduct of research.
Tentative numbers of the posts to be filled are given in the bracket
Additional Notes:
* The candidates without Ph.D degree who have applied for the posts of Assistant Professors will be considered for appointment on contract for a maximum period of 5 years, renewable on year to year basis evaluation or till the candidate acquires Ph.D degree, whichever is earlier. The Candidate will be absorbed in regular cadre of Assistant Professor Page 2 of 2 after completion of Ph.D. The contract will be renewable every year on the conditions of good performance in teaching, good conduct and satisfactory progress in Ph.D work. They would be in regular pay scale as applicable to Assistant Professor and shall be eligible for allowances DA/HRA/Transport Allowance as per GoI norms, as well as annual increment.
* Without any compromise on qualification, experience and competence, reservation as per Government of India rules is applicable at entry level positions of Assistant Professor. Necessary certificates must be enclosed with the application form.
* Separate applications must be sent if a candidate is applying for a faculty position in more than one Department.
* Mere fulfillment of the qualifications and experience requirement laid down does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview.
* Persons employed in Government/Semi Government Organization or Educational Institutions must apply through proper channel.

Minimum qualifications, experience, age limit, pay scales & minimum total emoluments for various faculty positions:
1. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
A) Essential Qualifications Engineering
i) For Candidates from Academic Institutions Ph.D degree, with first class or equivalent grade (CGPA 6.75 in a scale of 10) at Master’s or
Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate branch of Engineering & Technology.
OR
For candidates from Industry/Profession: Master’s Degree in the appropriate branch of Engineering & Technology, with first class or equivalent grade (CGPA 6.75 in a scale of 10) at Master’s or Bachelor’s degree. Significant professional works which can be recognised as equivalent to Ph.D* degree in appropriate branch of Engineering & Technology. (* – to be recommended unanimously by 2/3 – subject experts committee.)
ii) Must have GATE score card in the relevant discipline. GATE requirement shall not be applicable to Ph.D degree holder.
Science / Humanities
i) For Candidates from Academic Institutions
Ph.D degree, with first class or equivalent grade (CGPA 6.75 in a scale of 10) at Master’s degree level in the relevant subject.
OR
For Candidates from Industry/Profession
First Class or equivalent grade (CGPA 6.75 in a scale of 10) at Master’s degree level in the relevant subject. Significant Professional work which can be recognised as equivalent to Ph.D* degree in the concerned /relevant discipline. (* – To be recommended unanimously by 2/3 – subject experts committee.)
ii) Must have qualified NET/SET in the relevant discipline. NET/SET requirement shall not be applicable to Ph.D degree holder.
B) Experience
No minimum experience required.
C) Age Limit Below 45 years. In addition, relaxation in age limit for reserved category candidates as per GoI norms.
NOTE: i) The candidate with Ph.D degree, applying for the position of Assistant Professors in various Departments shall be considered for appointment on regular basis.
ii) The candidates without Ph.D degree who have applied for the post of Assistant Professors will be considered for appointment on contract for a maximum period of 5 years, renewable on year to year basis evaluation or till the candidate acquires Ph.D degree, whichever is earlier. The candidate will be absorbed in regular cadre of Assistant Professor after completion of Ph.D. The contract will be renewed every year on the conditions of good
performance in teaching, good conduct and satisfactory progress in Ph.D work. They would be in regular pay scale as applicable to Assistant Professor and shall be eligible for allowances DA/HRA/Transport Allowances etc. as per GoI norms, as well as annual increment.
D) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
i) Assistant Professor (Regular)
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 3 (Rs. 15600-39100), with a minimum pay to be fixed at Rs. 20150 /-(This includes 7 Ph.D advanced increments) + AGP of Rs. 6000/-
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 43148/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
ii) Assistant Professor (On Contract basis)
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 3 (Rs. 15600-39100) + AGP of Rs. 6000/-.Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 35640/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
2. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
A) Essential Qualifications
Engineering
i) For Candidates from Acade mic Institutions
Ph.D degree, with first class or equivalent grade (CGPA 6.75 in a scale of 10) at Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate branch of Engineering & Technology.
OR
For candidates from Industry/Profession
Master’s Degree in the appropriate branch of Engineering & Technology, with first class or equivalent grade (CGPA 6.75 in a scale of 10) at Master’s or Bachelor’s degree. Significant professional works which can be recognised as equivalent to Ph.D* degree in appropriate branch of Engineering & Technology. (* – to be recommended unanimously by 2/3 – subject experts committee.)
ii) Quality published work such as research papers/books/technical reports/patents filed/obtained.
iii) Experience of guiding PG project work/Research students/supervising R & D projects.
Science / Humanities

B) Experience
Minimum 5 years Teaching / Research / Industrial experience in reputed organisation of which at least 3 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor (formerly, Lecturer) or equivalent. The period of time taken to acquire Ph.D shall not be counted as experience.
C) Age Limit
Below 50 years. In addition, relaxation in age limit for reserved category candidates as per GoI norms.
D) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 4 (Rs. 37400-67000) + AGP of Rs. 9000/-.
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 76560/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
3. REGISTRAR
A) Essential Qualifications
i) Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or its equivalent Grade of B in the UGC seven point scale.
ii) At least 15 years of experience as Lecturer/ Assistant Professor of which 8 years should be in Assistant Professors grade (in the pre-revised scale of pay 12000-18300) with experience in Educational Administration.
OR
Comparable experience in research establishments, Institutes of Technical Education or in Government.
OR
15 years of administrative experience out of which eight years as Deputy Registrar (with pre revised scale of pay . 8000-275-13,500) or an equivalent post.The minimum requirement of 55% marks shall not be insisted upon in the case of exiting incumbents who are already in the NIT System.
B) Job Description:
The Registrar of the Institute is the custodian of records, the common seal and funds of the institute and such other property of the Institute as the Board shall commit to his charge. He is the Secretary of the Board of Governors, Senate and such committees as may be prescribed by the Statutes. He is required to provide administrative support to the Director and may be called upon to take up any other duties assigned by the Director or the Board of Governors. The Registrar shall also exercise such other powers and perform such other duties as may be assigned to him by the NIT Act or the statutes or by the Director.
C) Desirable:-
i) A postgraduate degree in Engineering with at least 60% marks or its equivalent grade.
ii) A degree in Law/Management.
iii) Considerable experience in educational administration, financial and accounts management and capacity to lead the administration in a residential institution and knowledge of computer and web-based administration.
iv) Proven experience in excellent human relations and successful personnel management, industrial relations, campus management and other aspects of administration; preferably in a large educational or R & D institution. All – round ability to co-ordinate and lead a team of officers with varied expertise.
D) Age Limit – below 57 years.
E) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 4 (Rs. 37400-67000) + GP of Rs. 10000/-.
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 78210/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
4. ASSISTANT LIBRARIAN
A) Essential Qualifications
i) Master’s degree in Library Science/Information Science/Documentation Science or an equivalent Professional Degree with at least 55% of the marks OR its equivalent grade o f55% where grading system is practiced and a consistently good academic record with knowledge on computerization of Library.
ii) Qualify in the NET or other accredited test like SLET/SET in Library Science conducted for the purpose by UGC or any other agency approved by the UGC.
iii) NET/SET requirement shall not be applicable to those Ph.D degree holders who have been awarded a Ph.D Degree through the process of admission, registration, course work and external evaluation as laid down in the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D Degree) Regulations, 2009.
B) Age Limit – below 50 years.
C) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
Assistant Librarian:- Scale of Pay: Pay Band 3 (Rs. 15600-39100) + GP of Rs. 6000/-.
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 35640/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
3. EXECUTIVE ENGINEER
A) Essential Qualifications
i) First class degree or equivalent grade in Civil Engineering from a recognized University/ Institute.
ii) Experience: 5 years experience in relevant field as Engineer/ Asst. Engineer from State/ Central PWD or similar organized services/ PSUs/ Universities/ Reputed Institutions.
B) Desirable:-
Experience o f planning, designing, estimation and execution of high value civil engineering works. Knowledge of CAD and construction management technology and other relevant software. Proven track record of handling projects of large magnitude and quality.
C) Age Limit – below 45 years.
D) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 3 (Rs. 15600-39100) + GP of Rs. 6000/-.
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 35640/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
4. TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (SYSTEM)
A) Essential Qualifications
First Class Bachelors Degree in Computer Science Or First class Diploma in Computer Science in appropriate field. A good academic record is essential in all cases. The requirement of first class can be relaxed by 5% for candidates with Masters Degree in Computer Science or Bachelors degree in Computer Science & Engineering.
B) Age Limit – below 30 years (with 5 years relaxation for Government employee and SC/ST candidates).
C) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 2 (Rs. 9300-34800) + GP of Rs. 4200/-.
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 22275/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
4. STENOGRAPHER
A) Essential Qualifications
Bachelors Degree with minimum speed in short hand 80 wpm. Proficiency in computer/Word Processing with advanced skills is essential.
B) Age Limit – below 30 years (with 5 years relaxation for Government employee and SC/ST candidates).
C) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 1 (Rs. 5200-20200) + GP of Rs. 2400/-.
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 16352/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
5. TECHNICIAN
A) Essential Qualifications
Diploma in Engineering of 3 years duration in appropriate field OR B.Sc. Degree in appropriate field OR Senior/Higher Secondary (10+2) with Physics as one of the subjects and ITI course of one year or higher duration in appropriate trade OR Matric with at least 50% marks + ITI certificate of two years duration in appropriate trade. The duty of a technician will not be limited to any particular trade, but will cover all trades necessary in the laboratory
/ shop he is attached to.
B) Age Limit – below 28 years (with 5 years relaxation for Government employee and SC/ST candidates).
C) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 1 (Rs. 5200-20200) + GP of Rs. 2000/-.
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 13959/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
6. JUNIOR ASSISTANT
A) Essential Qualifications
Bachelors Degree with a minimum typing sped of 40 WPM and proficiency in computer / word processing.
B) Age Limit – below 28 years (with 5 years relaxation for Government employee and SC/ST candidates).
C) Pay Scale & Minimum Total Emoluments, as of now.
Scale of Pay: Pay Band 1 (Rs. 5200-20200) + GP of Rs. 2000/-.
Total minimum emoluments: Rs. 13959/- + HRA, Transport Allowance etc. as applicable.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS & INFORMATION
1. The application form shall normally be not supplied on postal request. The candidates are advised to download the same from our website. The duly completed application form along with the enclosures shall be sent by post/ hand to The Director, National Institute of Technology, Mizoram,

2. The date for determining eligibility of candidates in every respect shall be the closing date for receipt of applications.
3. Candidates desirous of applying for more than one discipline/ post should submit separate application form.
4. The Institute has right to set higher norms than minimum while short listing, taking into account the specific requirements of the individual departments. The short listing norms may not be uniform across the departments of the Institute and shall be binding on the applicants. The decision of the institute related to all matters pertaining to the recruitment shall be final and binding on the applicants. The list of short listed candidates will be displayed on the Institute website.
5. The posts advertised are tentative. The institute reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of posts to be filled and to shortlist the candidates to be called for test/interview. Mere fulfilment of minimum qualification and experience requirements does not entitle any candidate to be
called for test/interview.The institute reserves the right to fill or not to fill any or all the posts advertised, without assigning any reason whatsoever.
6. All qualification, experience and preferred age limit will be considered as on 11/06/2012 i.e. the last date of submission of application forms.
7. The interpretation of Ph.D degree in the relevant field and a degree in the appropriate branch of Engineering/Technology/ Humanities shall be the prerogative of the respective departments.
8. The applicants from Industry/Profession who do not possess Ph.D degree would be required to submit their professional work, along with the application form for assessment of its equivalence to Ph.D degree by the subject experts.
9. Higher starting pay /and /or AGP may be offered to deserving candidates on recommendation of the selection committee at the discretion of the Board of Governors.
10. Applicants from the Academic Institutions must have Ph.D degree to be eligible for the post of Associate Professor.
11. The candidates without Ph.D degree who have applied for the posts of Assistant Professors will be considered for appointment on contract for a maximum period of 5 years, renewable on year to year basis evaluation or till the candidate acquires Ph.D degree, whichever is earlier. The Candidate will be absorbed in regular cadre of Assistant Professor after completion of Ph.D. The contract will be renewable every year on the conditions of good performance in teaching, good conduct and satisfactory progress in Ph.D work. They would be in regular pay scale as applicable to Assistant
Professor and shall be eligible for allowances DA/HRA/Transport Allowance etc. as per GoI norms, as well as annual increment.
12. Ph.D is compulsory for Sciences and Humanities disciplines.
13. All belated/incomplete applications which are not in prescribed form / not in original form / without relevant supporting enclosures may be out rightly rejected. Institute will not be responsible under any circumstances for any sort of postal delay/loss.
14. Short listing criteria may be higher and narrower than those advertised.
15. Persons serving in Govt. / Semi Govt. / PSUs / Universities / Educational Institutions should send their applications either THROUGH PROPER CHANNEL or should furnish a NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE at the time of interview. They can, however, send advance copy.
16. No TA/DA will be paid either for attending test / interview or for joining the post, if selected.
17. The date(s) of interview(s) once declared will be final.
18. Those appointed will be eligible for DA and other allowances as per the rules of the Institute.
19. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, the application form should be with a copy of the relevant caste certificate. For OBC candidates, Non-Creamy Layer status of the preceding year issued by the competent authority empowered for the purpose, as a proof in support of the caste claim is required.
No other certificate will be accepted as sufficient proof.
20. The persons with disability (PWD) viz. or Orthopaedically Handicapped shall be required to produce medical certificate in the prescribed form issued by the competent medical authorities for the purpose of employment. Persons suffering from not less than 40% of the disability shall only be
eligible for the benefit of reservation, if any and other relaxations as permissible under the rules.
21. Government strives to have workforce which reflects gender balance and women candidates are encouraged to apply.

23. Reservation policy for faculty positions at entry level (i.e. Assistant Professor) will be applicable as per the directives of the Department of Higher & Technical Education, Ministry of the HRD, Government of India.
